We meet at St John's Church every Sunday at 10.30am. On the first Sunday of the month we join together with the church family for All Age Worship. Children and young people take part in this service in different ways. On other Sundays, we all start together in church for the first part of the service, then go to different rooms for our groups. During the year preparation groups are run for those who would like to receive communion or be confirmed.
All Stars (3-7 year olds) meet on a Sunday morning except on Family Service Sundays. Our mornings are based on the SALT material from Scripture Union. We usually begin with a story, which is backed up by a worksheet. Along with this we will also undertake a craft activity, a game or a time of singing.
We are a group for the 7 - 11 year olds. We share the first part of the service with the congregation and then go to our side room for the remaining 45 minutes - 1 hour. Our time is spent studying the Bible together in a fun and relaxed way through stories, games, drama and craft activities.
We welcome young people from school years 7 - 9. We teach the word of God in a way relevant to young people, giving them the chance to study the Bible for themselves, and to ask and answer their own questions. We seek to share the good news about Jesus, and to help them grow towards a personal relationship with him. We also try to give a supportive environment for them to think and talk through the pressures they face at school and with friends in today's society. We use Scripture Union teaching materials, and also do creative activities and have social events on other occasions. Older teenagers help out with the sound system, welcoming, music, and younger children's groups.
We are a group of young people over the age of 14 years (School Year 10 and above) who meet on the second, fourth and fifth (if there is one) Sundays of the month. Our aim is to explore and encourage our Christian faith and support each other in what can be a difficult and confusing time of life. Usually we meet in church and leave to walk to the Park Church in Chelmsford Street at approximately 10.45am, returning at about 11.50am. Our discussions are often based on material from the Youthwork magazine or other topics of interest. We also welcome visitors to talk to us and have enjoyed hearing from a Kenyan teacher, a local environmental specialist and our Youth Minister. An important part of our time together is sharing our needs and concerns and recording them in a prayer diary which we often review and celebrate the answers that we have seen. We are a friendly group and would welcome any interested young people to join us.
